Is the state allowed to give out my information to corporations?

I will involved in a minor auto accidentI was not at fault about a week ago. I called the police to get a report written up and I have not contacted anyone else, even the insurance company has not been contacted yet. I have received 1 phone call from a medical corporation and 2 letters, 1 from a chiropractor and 1 from some auto finance company. This leads me to conclude that the local police have sold my auto accident information to all these companies since the letters reference my recent accident. Is this legal? If not, what kind of legal action can I take to stop this from happening to other people?

It is unlikely that the police "sold" your auto accident information to anyone.
What probably occurred was that the police report is online and these companies and individuals discovered it and are now contacting you.  Unfortunately, there isn't any effective course of action for preventing others from accessing online information and using it to solicit business.
