Is buying a car from an individual the same as buying a car “as-is/no warranty” from a dealership?

Essentially, yes you generally do not get any warranty from individuals they legally could give you one, but I've never seen that happen, so the car is an "as is/no warranty car," with one cavet if the seller indivdual or dealer lies about or intentionally hides some problem, defect, or past history which they are aware of and which is not apparent on your inspection or viewing of the car as the presumbably layperson buyer, that misrepresentation may be fraud, and may provide grounds to seek monetary compensation or even void the sale. So even an "as is/no warranty" car requires that the seller does not affirmatively lie about it.
