As long as there existed a valid warrant and the authorities had sufficient reason to believe that the subject of the warrant was inside of the dwelling, then they had the legal right to use force in order to effecuate the arrest.

Yes, the police or sheriff are not barred from effectuating *any* warrant, misdemeanor or felony, simply because someone has shut the door in their face. If they know or have good reason to believe the person name in the warrant is in the home, they may use forced entry.
