How do I obtain a letter of administration?
My father died with a Will; he appointed me executor. It did not have to go to probate because the estate was below state limits for probate. Now, the insurer of one of his life insurance policies tells me that I need a letter of administration to file the claim since the Will did not go through the court. Why do I need this?

A letter of administration is authorization by the court appointing one to act on behalf of an estate subject to a probate. I fail to see what you need such letetrs. You need to submit a certified death certificate of your father to the insurance carrier and it can pay the beneficiary under the policy once received.
