In almost every case, all you are entitled to in a case like this, for the damage to the car, is the cost of repairs.  Of course, the fact of the accident reduces the value of the car, even after it's fixed, and there is nothing much that can be done about that except to keep the car long enough that the difference becomes small enough not to matter.  The system isn't perfect, but that's how it works.
