No, they are not. NO person is required to call the police and report any crime, apart from in certain limited cases e.g. some case of child sexual abuse a doctor or lawyer reporting a threat of imminent harm by a client/patient which do not apply here. The employer e.g. owner or HR may call the police and it may be a good idea for them to do so, since it will show they took all reasonable actions in regards to the assault this could help if they are sued later but they are not legally obligated to do so.
