If you are salaried, you will be paid for the whole day. However, hourly employees are only paid for the hours that they actually work, so if the employer does not have light duty you can usefully do after the apointment (they don't have to make up new work for you or invent a job; they only have to let you work if on light duty restrictions if they actually have something for you to do) and tells you to go home, you will not be paid.
