You will receive a letter from the store demanding payment of an amount that is considerably more than the value of the items that were taken.  The letter will state something to the effect that if you pay the amount demanded, that will end the matter.  If you don't pay the amount demanded, further action will be taken such as criminal prosecution.
It would be advisable to pay the amount and end the matter because if criminal prosecution occurs and you are convicted, it will be difficult to find a job in the future with a criminal record.
