What to do if I was told by my company that I was being transferred to another state but when I got there they told me it was just an interview?

Should they have to pay for the time and money I spent on this trip.

If you were actually told you were being transferred to another portion of your company in another state and actually moved all of your belongings and rented a unit in the new state and discovered that you were not being transferred but were just being sent for an interview, then you should be reimbursed for your costs. The same holds true if you did not move any of your belongings but simply incurred transportation costs and expenses for this interview.
