What to do if I was threatened to be fired for doing my job in a way that was safe for employees but not safe for equipment I was working with?

I was installing a electrical submersible pump and could not do my job in a way that was safe for myself and equipment both so I did it where it was safe for me and other employees. However, my boss told me in front of a group of about 10 people that if I damaged the equipment he would fire me.

You should document the threat that your boss made to you about terminating you while installing the submersible pump in a safe manner by having a meeting with your human resources representative at work and discuss what happened. Follow up the meeting with a written note to the representative while keeping a copy of it for future reference and need.

Under the laws of all states in this country, safety of workers is paramount.
