What is considered to be self-defense if you are threatened by a person?
They stated “I will stab you”. While we were in an argument on a bus. Then while seated, I saw there hand moving towards there pocket and struck them with a punch to the face. Is this considered self defense?

Under the laws of all states in this country "self defense" is the use of reasonable force to protect oneself from an imminent threat of danger under the given circumstances. Based upon what you have written, the punch you threw could be considered self defense.
