Should the person who hit me be responsible for my hospital bill?

I was out for a run on a paved hiking/biking trail and a cyclist hit me from behind, which caused me to have to go to the hospital where I ended up with 11 stitches.

Yes, under the laws of all states in this country if you can demonstrate that the bicyclist that struck you from behind was careless and caused you damages (which there are) the bicyclist would be responsible under the laws of all states in this country to pay for the costs of your hospital bill. From what you have written, it seems that the person who struck you from behind was careless.
