If I was arrested for shoplifting and it is a disorderly persons offense in my state, is it beneficial for me to get a public defender?

In any criminal proceeding that one is involved in, I always recommend that he or she retain a criminal defense attorney to represent him or her. The reason is that an experienced criminal defense attorney has the training, experience and knowledge to deal with the criminal matter much better than a non-attorney.
