How does a voluntary quit versus abandonment effect an employee’s right to collect unemployment benefits?

I told my boss I needed to leave work. I was mentally about to explode, due to the stress. I came in the next day and was told I was suspended. About a week later they gave me final check. I filed for UI. I got denied. My union and former employer and I have since reached an agreement that’s shows a voluntary quit. And not job abandonment. Will this status change make a difference in my appeal to UI?

It is unlikely that your change of status from abandonment to voluntary quit will result in you being awarded unemployment compensation when you appeal the previous denial of benefits.  This is due to the fact that unemployment compensation is denied when there is a voluntary quit.  If you had been fired instead of a voluntary quit, you would probably be awarded unemployment compensation.
