What to do if I shoplifted $40 of stuff but was caught at the door and immediately turned it all over?

I am 22 and it is my first offense. What should I expect to happen at court and is there any way to keep it off my record in any way?

I suggest that you consult with a criminal defense attorney to see if you can be placed in the court probation program as a first offender. If so and you successfully complete the program then the criminal charge against you will be dismissed.
