If I returned a rental car recently, when does the rental company have to notify me of alleged damages?
At the time that I returned it the person checking my car checked out the car then had me dig my receipt and told me to have a good day. I left. Now they are sending me a bill for damages to the taillight that they say I caused, yet neither the rental car employee or I noticed at the time of checkout. I have already paid for the rental fee. This was over a month ago. Am I liable for the damages?

IF you caused the damage, then you could be liable; in your state, the statute of limitations, or time to bring a lawsuit, for property damage is two years; therefore, they can seek payment from you, if they believe that you caused the damage, any time within two years of when you drove the vehicle. They are not required to tell you of the damage or bill you for it when you returned the vehicle.
