If I rent a house and forgot a pot on the stove that it started a fire, can the home owne’rs insurer sue me for cost of the damages?

Both the homeowner and insurance company can sue you for damages due to your negligence.  You need not pursue it yourself. You need to wait or if you know you are going to be sued, talk with your renter's insurance to determine next steps.
