If I owe a debt from 8 years ago and a collection agency keeps calling threatening me saying that they’ll sue me and I’ll go to jail if I don’t pay up, what can I do?

I suggest that you consult with a consumer law attorney about the calls from the debt collection company for an eight year old debt where presumably there is no judgment against you for it. First, the debt is time barred by your state' statute of limitations from collection assuming there is no lawsuit or judgment against you for it.

Second, the threat of jail is an illegal debt collection practice under the laws of all states in this country.
