If your former landlord has yet to return to you your security deposit a year plus after move out and no itemization of any amount of such kept as required per code you need to write the landlord a letter demanding its return with a accrued interest by a set date. Keep a copy of the letter for future use and need.
If you do not get the payment owed, then your recourse is small claims court. Note, many states have added on penalties as to a landlord who improperly hold back a tenant's security deposit.
