Wht to do if our new landlord threw out some of our property from a storage area that the old landlord let us use due to the item’s large size?
Our new landlord claims that the old landlord told them it was ok to throw all the stuff in “the old landlord’s storage area” because it was old junk from former tenants. What are my rights here?

Based upon what you have written about the new landlord who unilaterally discarded your property is now liable to you for the fair market value of what was lost.
I would submit an itemized statement to the new landlord for payment with a dollar amount owed you to be paid by a stated date. Keep a copy of the invoice for future use and need. If payment is not made by the due date, then small claims court seems to be your legal recourse.
