If I was involved in a car accident and received payment for my medical bills, can my medical insurer ask that I give them back this money?

The accident was 2 years ago; I was rear-ended at stop light. I received payment for the medical bills that I paid out of pocket. Now my medical insurance is asking for this money back. Am I required to do this?

Many insurance companies require reimbursement.  You can negotiate with your insurance company to try to reduce the amount demanded for reimbursement.

The settlement that you received from the at-fault party's insurance carrier should have been an amount that would not only compensate you, but also be sufficient to reimburse your insurance company.
