What can I do if I have a contract with a venue for an event and am now trying to cancel the event but am being told that I will not be refunded my money?
I am being told that I will not be refunded any of the $2500 that I have already given to the venue. My contract states I need to give prior notice or I will be responsible for the entire balance due for the event. Am I entitled to my money back or not?

Since the contract says that you need to give prior notice of cancellation which you did, you should receive a refund. If there are deadlines for cancellation in the contract in order to receive a refund, you will need to comply with those in order to receive a refund.
If you have complied with all the requirements of the contract pertaining to receiving a refund and the venue has refused, you can sue the venue for breach of contract.
