I doubt that he can change the beneficiary at all, if he's not the owner of the policy.  At the same time, unless the divorce decree authorized it, you may not have the right to own insurance on his life any longer.  In many states, the divorce ends your "insurable interest".  Sometimes, insurance is used to "guarantee" payment of child support or alimony, but usually the person who's paying the support takes out the policy under the court's judgment.
