Can my house be auctioned without going through the foreclosure process?

I currently own home but am behind on the mortgage. I received a notice and date to auction the property but never received a foreclosure notice.

Under the laws of all states in this country a property owner is required to receive written notice that his or her home is subject to a foreclosure proceeding before the actual auction happens. Given what you have written about I suggest that you consult with a real estate attorney to assist you in the matter which is the subject of your question.
