I am 1 of 3 children. The estate value is $56,000, just cash and 1 ring.

Under California law, a custodian a person in possession of an original will must lodge the will within 30 days of the decedent's death and in the local county court where the decedent was domiciled.  The lodging fee is approximately $50.
If the probate estate is less than $150,000, then you can simply fill out a Cal. Probate Code 13100 affidavit to collect the cash and personal belongings.  In other words, there is no probate.
I hope I answered your question.
