If I’m looking at a Class D felony for back child support and the amount is pretty high, what can I do besides get a job in order to avoid jail time?

I have other dependants.

The other option is for you to consult with a criminal defense attorney to try and work a deal where you agree tp pay back so much per month on the child support arrearages where most likely you will have to being looking for a job to do what may need to be done.
