Most states have a law providing something known as the "look back" rule regarding DUI convictions. According to this rule, if your DUI conviction occurred outside of the stated period, the court will not consider it for purposes of sentencing (although it will remain on your permanent criminal/driving record). In other words, it will be as though your most recent DUI was the first. In WI, the look back period is 10 years.
