If you’re behind on car payments, can the finance company report the vehicle has stolen?
I am behind on my car payments because I was laid off. I explained this to the dealership and also explained i am starting a new job on the 17th. The repossessor turned around and called my mom and said that if I don’t turn over the vehicle, they will report it stolen. It is registered to my husband and I. Is it legal for them to report it stolen and is it legal for them to tell my mom my financial business since she isn’t a co-signer on the loan?

What you have written about is an unfair debt collection practice in all states in this country where the repossessor has threatened that if the car is not turned in by you it will be reported as stolen. I suggest that you consult with a consumer law attorney to help you in the matter that you have written about. Likewise to advise your mother of your financial status is improper at well.
