I am a federal employee so can my employer garnish my whole check?

I work for the IRS and have had nearly my whole paycheck garnished. Is
that legal?

Depending on the reason your wages are being garnished, the amount that is leaglly garnished can range from about 15% to 60%. Normally, judgment creditors can take up to 25% of your disposable income. When it comes to student loans up to 15% can be garnished. Up to 50% of your disposable income can be garnished if you are dilinquent on child support and supporting a spouse or child not part of the order. If you are not supporting a spouse or child, then up to 60% can be taken. When dealing with Tax debt, the IRS has it's own formula for garnishment.
