In most states in this country, if a parent signs written consent for his or her minor child who is over the age of sixteen (16) years to get married, the parental consent allows the marriage if the minor wishes to marry, even to a person who is an adult (23 years of age).
You need to be aware that given the parental consent and the eventual marriage, the parents are no longer responsible for the minor child.
