If I adopted my stepson for the purpose of inheritance, does he have the same inheritance rights as a natural born child?
I have an irrevocable Trust which states that my natural child inherits, otherwise the estate goes to my brother. It was established 42 years ago when I was young, single man.

Why on earth would you have made the trust irrevocable? The answer to your question is that the trust will trump any sort of law of intestacy under which your adopted son would have inheritance rights. You need to get with a trusts and estates attorney and find a way to undo that trust, or your natural born child will inherit everything.
