How much would it cost me for a divorce and what do I need to know before doing that?
I’ve been married for 32 years and wanted a divorce but my husband kept saying that i would be starving and I have an 8 years old to take care of and I also need to help my low vision son through school. I have not been on a regular job since my son was in middle school 20 years. I’m going to school now to try get my graduate degree so I can improve my business. We owned a house that’s paid off but we have credit card debts and everything else is paid for.

You can file for a divorce yourself. In CA there are several sites that contain this information. here is one that you may find to be of help: http://www.courts.ca.gov/selfhelp-divorce.htm However, since child custody, visitation and support issues will be involved, you should try to obtain legal repsentation if possible. Since money is an issue for you, see if Legal Aid can help you. If not, see if there is a law school in your area since they usually run legal clinics that take clients for free or reduced fees. Finally, see if your local county/state bar association has a list of lawyers who represent clients "pro bono" (i.e. for free) based on their income.circumstances.
