How much should I sue for?

Hired a contractor to lay pet turf, we contracted
for a price of 4800. Paid 3000 to get the job
started and e did awful and refused to fix it. We
did not pay the remaining 1800 and had
another professional come out and quote us on
how much it would be to fix and the quote was
4000. My questions is when during what
amount do you go for?

Typically, if a contractor does commercially unacceptable work, you would sue for the cost to complete or correct what they did. So if it will take $4,000 to re-do or fix the work, that would be the amount you'd sue for. (If you get the full amount, you'll have ended up $3,000 out of pocket to pet turf--less than either the first or second quotes/proposals.)
