How long do you have after someone moves out so that any property that they left behind become yours?

I kicked my boyfriend out over a month ago. How long do I have until his stuff that he left here become mine and I can sell it?

Unles your boyfriend send you a note stating that the items that he left behind are abandoned and are yours, the law is vague as to the "time" that needs to elapse before the items are deemed abandoned by the owner.

The law looks at the facts and circumstances of the items left behind and what the owner does as to trying to get them in his or her possession or not.

I would send your former boyfriend a note certified mail return receipt requested stating that if does not retrieve the items left behind in six (6) months you will consider them abandoned and will dispose of them as you see fit.
