How do I go about settling an estate if the person passed away 4 years ago?
At the time of my mom’s passing, someone “acted as” (told us they were) executor and gather her info, paid some credit debts from her accounts etc. Now they say they were never the executor. Estate still open less than $20,000; 4 kids. I just have no idea how to handle it with what happened previously

This is a "Small Estate". The Surrogates Court In the County where decedent lived will have the simplified forms to file. Did she have a will? Was it filed with the court? You will need a death certificate.
