How do I claim residency again in the U.S.?
I am an American citizen who is coming back to live in the U.SA. after 5 years
abroad. I was curious to know if I must claim residency again on U.S. soil or will
this be done automatically when I begin working and paying taxes?

It will be automatic since you never lost your citizenship when you were abroad. You will simply indicate your residence as being in the US the next time you file for your tax return, etc. It should not cause any issues but if you are coming into the US midway through the year, you may want to discuss the tax consequences for US and abroad with a tax specialist.
