Go to your local state unemployment office as soon as possible after you become unemployed. Be sure to take the following documents with you:

(1) your Social Security Card

(2) recent pay stubs, to verify employment

(3) anything relating to the reason for your unemployment (for example, notice from your employer)

The address and telephone nuymber of your local unemployment office is listed in the “government” section of your telephone directory.  You might want to check the state agency’s website first to find out about its particular process. You will probably have to report to the unemployment office on a regular basis, in order to reaffirm your continued unemployment.
