You can file your petition for dissolution of marriage and have your spouse served by publication.  Service by publication is having the notice of your petition for dissolution for marriage appear in the legal notices section of a newspaper for a specific period of time.  The time period varies from state to state and you should check with the court clerk to find out the required period of time and the list of publications where the notice can run to satisfy the requirements of service by publication.
Service by publication is effective even if your spouse does not see the item in the newspaper.
