Forced time off
I transferred to this office last month. Someone messed up the holiday time off schedule that was not in anyway allowed to alter a schedule. Since the rest of the people in the office took vacation according to this, my corporate office is saying it’s causing a staffing issue and giving me the ultimatum to take 3 days of unpaid or use vacation time from next year. I’m not okay with either, we were never scheduled to be closed. Do I have options?

Actually, you may have no rights regarding this. The fact is that most employment relationships are "at will", meaning that a company can set the conditions of the workplace much as it sees fit. Additionally, vacation time is not a legally mandated; this means that an employer need not provide it. Therefore, to the extent that it does, it has a great deal of say over when and how it is used. Your only protection here would be if this action violates the terms of any applicable employment contract or union agreement. Also, it must not constitute some form of legally actionable discrimination (which it does not appear to).
