Once the court confirms you as executor, you are the executor until the estate is probate and settled, or--if you are taking unreasonably long or doing something wrong (e.g. not following the instructions of the will) and some interested party (e.g. an heir or beneficiary) brings a court action for your failures as an executor and a court agrees with them and removes you.
