Most employment is what is known as "at will". This means that a business can set the conditions of employment much as it sees fit. This includes why to discharge a worker. In fact, an employee can be fired for the reason you cite, for any reason or for no reason at all, with or without notice. This all holds true unless some form of legally actionable discrimination was involved or it the terms of an employment contract or union/collective bargaining agreement was breached.
