If my dorm room has no heat, can I withhold rent for the weeks without heat?

I have requested the heat to be turned on but to no avail. It is a private university by the way, if that matters.

The first thing that needs to be answeredis why there is no heat in your dorm room? If there something wrong with the heating system that your school is trying to fix?

If you have the money to fix the heating system in your dorm room, you can write the person in charge stating that you will fix the system on your own and you will deduct the costs of such from your next month's rental payment.

That is one option. The other option is to have the local permit and building department come and make an inspection of the unit to expedite the process for the repair. Good luck.
