If you are an "exempt" (typically salaried) employee, you need not be paid for such time, even if it is being held beyond your normal scheduled work time. If you are an "non-exempt) (typically hourly) employee, the time that you spend in mandatory meetings is compensable work time. In other words, your employer has to pay you for it. Additionally, if it puts you into an overtime situation, then it has to be paid as overtime pay.
