It all depends on why insurance coverage would be court ordered and if it is personal insurance coverage for possible on the job injuries or if there was an issue with a previous or current workers compensation claim. If the current general manager or foreman hired an employee and the employee was less than truthful about the matter regarding the insurance coverage, it may very well be in the purview of the boss to ask those questions to protect the company, protect the other employees and to prevent further on the job injuries or even from possible claims from this particular employee. You should consider contacting your state department of labor and see if it has brochures or online guides regarding construction jobs and whether this particular employee is a W2 employee covered under many labor laws or an independent contractor.
