Must I submit to a lie detector test?

Do I have to take a lie detector test because of an arson? Someone set my building on fire twice and we’re being singled out because we live on first floor. What I’m asking is it mandatory that I take this test or can I refuse? Idon’t think that its right their asking just us out of a 10 unit building? Should I speak with a criminal defense attorney? Inn in York County, ME.

Legally, you are under no obligation to take a lie detector test.  In fact at this point, under no circumstances should you even speak to the police without an attorney present.  Innocent though you may be, you could unknowingly say something that would incriminate yourself regarding the crime.  This holds true even if the police come to your home to question you - you are not legally obligated to answer any of their questions.  Until you have an attorney, steer clear of the authorities.  You need to consult with an attorney ASAP.
