Do I have to comply with subrogation?

I was in a small accident where I accidentally hit my buddies truck with a golf
cart. The accident was in March, and he went through his insurance and told them
that I was the one that hit his car. They contacted me and said subrogation would
reach out.

They just now in August reached out to me. Do I have to comply and pay? What
happens if I ignore their outreach?

If you refuse to pay, they can sue you. IF they can show in court by a "preponderance of the evidence" (that is, that it is more likely than not) that you were at fault in causing the damage (i.e. driving your golf cart negligently or carelessly), then can get a court judgement (order) requiring you to pay.
