Drunk driving laws also apply to marijuana and other controlled substances, including prescription drugs. Driving under the influence of any substance is a serious offense in any state. However, state laws differ in their application of DUI laws to drugs. For example, a stae may apply these laws differently to drivers suspected of driving under the influence of drugs by requiring a blood analysis instead of a breath test to prove impairment while driving aand some have much harsher punishments for driving under the influence of drugs.
