Designating executor

In Massachusetts, can the lawyer who I paid to write my will
also be named as the executor? If a friend agreed to be my
executor, could he hire a professional executor if he so
chooses? Thanks.

1) Yes, you can name an attorney, including the one who wrote your will, to be your executor.
2) A person appointed to be executor cannot make someone else the executor in his/her stead (unless the will named that person as a "back-up executor," in the event the prime or main executor declined to serve), but he or she could hire a professional to advise or assist him or her, while he or she remains ultimately responsible for carrying out the duties of executor.
