What are my chances of being granted a youthful offender status if I was charged with MIP?

I was in the car (not driving) going home and the police stopped us because we were making too much noise and my friend had his head out of the window because he felt sick. After the police officers removed us from the vehicle they found 5 unopened beer cans. They issued us all minor in possession citations. I would like to apply for a youthful offender status.

If the minor in possession charge is your first criminal offense then there is a good chance that you can get court probation per a youthful offender. If you complete the terms of probation the charge will be dismissed. I suggest that you consult with a criminal defense attorney in your locality. One can be found on attorneypages.com.
