If I got caught shoplifting for merchandise worth $3.96, what’s the best way to handle the criminal and civil charges?

I was given a citation and a paper by the store’s Asset Protection Recovery. How much will I end up paying? Do I have to pay the store’s fine?

You will end up paying back what you stole plus restitution and court costs. You should get an attorney because if this is your first offense and can qualify for some sort of alternative or delayed conviction that would allow this to be dropped and expunged at a later date, you should consider it.
